NEWS - YTE returns from China!

Members of the KSR YTE (below) have just returned from the Fifth Annual Beijing International Dance Festival, on December 21-23, 2007. The ensemble and other dancers performed “JUBA! Masters of Tap,” before an audience of 2,900 people in the historic Beijing Exhibition Hall.
The KSR Youth Tap Ensemble was invited to perform along with five other youth ensembles as a result of their participation in the annual Chicago Human Rhythm Project (CHRP). This group of dancers from around the United States is honored to present the final concerts of the three-week festival. More than 50 tap dancers from China will also join the cast for a grand international finale!
In China the Keane Sense of Rhythm Youth Tap Ensemble, was joined by members of six other youth ensembles including; Tappers With Attitude; the North Carolina Youth Tap Ensemble; Rhythm & Percussion in Motion; Footprints Tap Ensemble; and Soul2Sole. The youth companies will be dancing alongside American tap masters Lane Alexander, Dormeshia Sumbry Edwards, Jason Samuels Smith, Sam Weber, and more than 20 others! The China Performing Arts Agency commissioned the Chicago Human Rhythm Project to produce this show. Additional support for the trip comes from the Chicago Human Rhythm Project and its finders, including the Chicago Community Trust, the Joyce Foundation, and the Illinois Arts Council.

Testimonials:
YTE not only gave me the opportunity to improve my tap skills by working with a dedicated group of dancers and
teachers, but it also gave me
the opportunity to perform in a wide variety of different venues and situations. YTE taught me what it means to be a
professional in the
wider dance community. I was exposed to many different styles of dance, and given the opportunity to take class from
many amazing masters in
the field today. But beyond the actual dancing, I learned how to be a leader, how to teach as well as to learn from my
fellow peers. I
learned how to conduct myself in a professional manner, and how to think on my feet (literally), which are all skills
that go beyond the
dance floor.
-Former YTE member, Janet Manthey
I was an original member of the KSR YTE, and I had the time of my life. We
were given performing opportunites that would never have happened otherwise.
I also see the benefits of it after I graduated high school; I have been
asked to perform in shows with professionals. It was a great experience!
Ellen and Cathy are great too!
